Picking A New Pet Bird For Your Household

Ok, so you want a bird and you don’t know what kind to get. There are several questions to ask yourself before going buying bird. What sort of household do you have? A busy one where you are hardly at home? Or are you a stay at home person? Some birds need lots of attention and others can get along with very little. Do you want a bird that comes out of it’s cage? Do you want one that has the capability to learn to talk? Or will you be satisfied with a small bird that stays in it’s cage and sings? These are all questions that need to be answered.
Canaries or Finches are favorite birds of many that want birds that they don’t have to interact with, but like to watch. Beautiful little birds that are easy to care for and give much pleasure to the owners. But then there are those among us that have always wanted a Parrot. Parrots range in size from the small Parrotlets to the majestic Macaws. How much space do you have available? Smaller Parrots, such as the Parrotlets, Cockatiels, and Conures don’t take up a lot of space and make good apartment birds. If noise is a consideration then the Parrotlet or the Cockatiel is the better choice. Also many people in that situation have African Greys. The African species of Parrot are generally not noisy and don’t take up nearly as much room as a Macaw or a Cockatoo. Plus the African Grey is superior to almost all birds in talking ability. Macaws, Cockatoos, and large Parrots need much more attention and room to thrive, so if you take on one of those think of it as taking on a 4 yr. old child forever since they will most likely outlive you!
In conclusion, consider these things….how much room do you have to devote to your new bird? How much time can you give it on a regular basis?
Birds can be a wonderful addition to any household. Now go out there and make your choice!
